I asked Bucs new offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich if he feels added responsibility as one of the few African-American coaches on the offensive side of the ball, like Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn. "There are only 32 of these jobs with whatever position you have, so there is already pressure that comes with the position. Do I feel a responsibility to – I feel a responsibility to my last name, to my family and also to African-American coaches just to try to be successful. Not that I go out and think about it that way. I just want to be the best football coach I can possibly be and hopefully that is good enough to inspire anybody, to help anybody as a player. I don't really view it that way. I don't really see it that way."

Bucs new offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said that he has always seen Big Ben-type ability in Jameis Winston. In fact, Leftwich remembers watching Winston's first college start when he was up in Pittsburgh. "We knew that this kid had a chance to be really, really good." And now? Leftwich said, "That kid can really play."

Goodwin: Wilks' firing amid no black hires 'hurt'

Tampa Bay's new assistant head coach, Harold Goodwin, didn't mince words when asked about his disappointment over the firing of Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks after one season and over the lack of minority hires.

Bucs new assistant coach/run game coordinator Harold Goodwin on Steve Wilks' firing: "That hurt a little bit. ... It's hard to build something from the ground-up in one year. It's like, ‘Hey, I want you to start this Fortune-500 company, but you've got one year. That's impossible."

Source: Bucs hire former USC RB coach McNair

Former USC running-backs coach Todd McNair, who spent the past seven years fighting the NCAA over the Reggie Bush scandal and lost, has been hired to the same position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Jenna Laine ESPN Staff Writer

The Bucs have officially named Harold Goodwin the assistant head coach/run game coordinator and Keith Armstrong the special teams coordinator.

I can confirm that Todd McNair will be joining the Bucs' staff as running backs coach, as first reported by Pewter Report. McNair played for Arians at Temple and Kansas City and coached with him in Cleveland (2001-2003) before spending six seasons at USC (2004-2009).

I talked to Drew Stanton, who played for Bruce Arians in both Indianapolis and Arizona, about some of Arians' philosophies. He told me, "You don't win football games in the first half. You can lose them but you don't win them. You have to be smart in the first half. You have to pick and choose your battles. That was a B.A. saying, ‘You play the first half to see what you have to do in the second half.'" Blown first-half leads and countering opponents' halftime adjustments became a real issue under Dirk Koetter. The Bucs were 18-13 since 2016 when they had a lead at any point in the first half. That .581 win percentage ranks 25th in the NFL.
