Mitch Trubisky, Bears QB

Chris Bleck talks with Bears QB Mitch Trubisky about year 2 in Matt Nagy's system, watching film, David Montgomery and moving past the Wild Card loss.

Bears third-round pick RB David Montgomery made a strong impression thought rookie minicamp. "He's very, very … he's extremely focused when he's in practice, which I love, Bears head coach Matt Nagy said. "He's very dialed in to whatever his assignment is. He loves being out here." Montgomery projects as a future every-down running back, and he did nothing to dispel that notion over Chicago's three-day rookie camp. Montgomery may lack elite breakaway speed, but his quick feet and above average lateral movement was easy to spot during drills.

No good: Bears kickers boot early shot to dazzle

Matt Nagy had the eight kickers attending the Bears' rookie minicamp attempt a 43-yarder -- the same distance from which Cody Parkey missed in the playoffs -- and only two made it.

Who's ready for a good old-fashioned kicker competition? The Chicago Bears list eight kickers on their rookie minicamp roster, which begins on Friday: Chris Blewitt, Casey Bednarski, Redford Jones, Elliott Fry, Emmit Carpenter, John Baron II, Spencer Evans and Justin Yoon. Chicago is searching for a replacement for Cody Parkey, who the Bears cut after his double doink missed 43-yard field goal in a playoff loss to Philadelphia back in January.

Ex-Bears kicker warns Gould of Chicago return

It might seem like it would be a perfect reunion, but former Bears kicker Kevin Butler said Robbie Gould needs to be "careful what you wish for" when it comes to his wanting to return to Chicago via trade.

Bears have exercised the fifth-year option on Leonard Floyd's contract, locking up the linebacker through the 2020 season.

Ryan Pace, Bears GM

David Kaplan and Dan Wiederer talk with Bears GM Ryan Pace about David Montgomery, Riley Ridley and the 2019 Draft class.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

Here are the Bears picks through all seven rounds of the draft: 1. David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State (3rd round); 2. Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia (4th round); 3. Duke Shelley, CB, Kansas State (6th round); 4. Kerrith Whyte, RB, Florida Atlantic (7th round); 5. Stephen Denmark, CB, Valdosta State (7th round).

Bears general manager Ryan Pace states that running back David Montgomery (picked No. 73 overall) has "good vision...good instincts...good hands...is good out of the backfield...and is a well-rounded back." Pace added, "this guys checks all the boxes for us, including in terms of character." Pace won't commit to Montgomery as a starter, but says that all the running backs will be expected to contribute in Matt Nagy's offense.

New Bears running back David Montgomery (picked No. 73 overall) stressed the importance of a running back being able to catch the football when he met with the Chicago media on Saturday night. Former Bears running back Jordan Howard struggled to catch the ball out of the backfield, but Montgomery had 71 career receptions in three years at Iowa State, the fifth most catches ever by a Cyclones running back.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

After moving up in the third round via a trade with NE, the Bears address a glaring need in their backfield by selecting Iowa State running back David Montgomery. The Bears signed free agent running back Mike Davis in the offseason, and still feature all-purpose back Tarik Cohen, but after losing Jordan Howard and Benny Cunningham off last year's team, Chicago had a serious need at the position. The Bears coveted Montgomery so much, they moved up 14 spots to acquire him, sending the Patriots their original 3rd round pick (87), their fifth-round pick (162) and a 2020 fourth-rounder. Chicago also gets back a New England sixth-round pick in 2019.

Will Gould return to the Bears? (1:07)
