Frank Vogel said in the interview process the Lakers asked him if he would be open to adding people to his staff that they'd like and that's where Jason Kidd entered the picture. He said he wanted a collaborative effort and he says the model that has worked best for him is to have a former player on his staff to help deliver his message to players. Vogel said he had a lengthy conversation with Kidd during the interviewing process. He says he trusts in his growing relationship with Kidd, believes in building respect and a positivity on the staff and that he cannot worry about looking over his shoulder when asked about Kidd potentially looming as possible replacement.

Rob Pelinka said Magic Johnson's allegations weren't true and that he had just spoken with his former boss "two days ago" about the Lakers landing the fourth pick in the lottery. "I think the most important thing for me is the two years of being able to work side by side with Earvin are the some of the greatest memories I have in sports and work," Pelinka said. "He is an unbelievable person to work with. He fills the room with joy and vision. And truly it's saddening and disheartening to think he believes things are a misperception. I think all of us in life probably have been through things where maybe there's third party whispers or he said, she said things that aren't true. I have talked to him several times since he decided to step away and we had many joy-filled conversations... So these things are surprising to hear and disheartening but I look forward to the opportunity to talk with him and sit down with him and work through them just like in any relationship. They're just simply not true. I stand beside him, I stand with him as a colleague, as a partner, I've always supported everything he's done and will continue to and that's the best way to address that."

Rob Pelinka says Linda Rambis' wisdom, her advice and insight is something that the organization trusts and looks to. But he said that it was his decision to recommend and hire Frank Vogel as the head coach to Jeanie Buss, who had the final say.

Rob Pelinka said the position of president of basketball operations has been eliminated since Magic Johnson stepped down and that his job is clear cut: he consults with the basketball staff and then makes suggestions to Jeanie Buss, who delivers her "blessing" or not. Pelinka also consults with Kurt Rambis in his senior advisor role.
