Laura Cusick, whose husband Rick suffered serious injuries at a 2016 Atl/StL game, said she's happy about MLB's extended netting news, but the absence of a precise mandate "indicates that they really do not take this issue seriously and are only acting to improve their own optics." She added that MLB "should publish the data they have collected that shows where the most dangerous seats in the stadium are located and let the fans make an informed choice about their seat selection."

Braves allow popular Culberson to go free

The Braves did not offer a 2020 contract to Charlie Culberson on Monday, making the popular utility player a free agent. Atlanta also did not offer contracts to catcher John Ryan Murphy and outfielder Rafael Ortega.

Catcher Travis d'Arnaud is headed to the Atlanta Braves on a two-year, $16M deal. Atlanta has made three of the four free agent signings this winter and now guaranteed $69 million to d'Arnaud, Will Smith and Chris Martin. A nice start to the winter for the Braves.

Braves re-sign reliever Martin for 2 years, $14M

Chris Martin, whom the Braves acquired from the Rangers at the trade deadline last season, will return to Atlanta after signing a two-year, $14 million deal.

Tristan H. Cockcroft ESPN Senior Writer

Atlanta is a good landing spot for Will Smith, fantasy-wise, as a lefty who can neutralize the left-handed leanings of SunTrust Park. That contract assures he'll close, strengthening his top-five-reliever case. Ultimately, I think he'll settle at RP6 in my rankings.
