The Bucs have signed defensive lineman Nick Thurman, team announced. An undrafted free agent out of Houston in 2018, Thurman spent this past season with the Texans. He did not see any action in regular season games but notched nine combined tackles in the preseason.

Former Texas RB Porter transfers to Houston

Running back Kyle Porter, who played 27 games for Texas over the past two years, has transferred to Houston. He'll be eligible for the Cougars this season.

Houston held its first spring practice under new coach Dana Holgorsen on Tuesday with a healthy D'Eriq King fully cleared to participate.

Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver said Saturday he still works with and enjoys riding horses off the field and after he signs with an NFL team he expected to buy property with a barn to have horses. Said he might also get "some cows, I've never really been a cow guy, but they have bulls you can sell their semen and make a lot of money."

On comparisons to Aaron Donald when Donald entered the 2014 draft after his career at Pitt, Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver said "I think I can come in and do the same thing if not better." And asked what game video people should look at to get an idea of the player he is and Oliver said: "Pretty much all of them."

Houston defensive lineman Ed Oliver said he believed he would be better in the NFL as a three technique defensive tackle, but if he was asked to play linebacker he would do that. "If I'm getting paid to play linebacker, guess what I'm going to play linebacker," Oliver said.

Holgorsen embraces Houston's 10-win standard

New Houston coach Dana Holgorsen didn't shy away when asked about the school president's stated double-digit-win standard for the program, noting, "I don't want to go anywhere that doesn't have expectations like that."

Dana Holgorsen, upon being introduced as Houston's head coach, said "It's great to be home." He said when he left as offensive coordinator after the 2009 season, "I left here with a frown. Because one I was going to Oklahoma, but two, I love this city. Obviously, things worked out OK."

Dana Holgorsen's new contract, obtained via open records request by ESPN, will pay him $20 million over 5 years. He'll also get a raise plus a $1 million incentive if the school gets a Power 5 conference invitation. His assistant salary pool ($4.5 million) is the largest for a Group of 5 program.

Former West Virginia receivers coach Tyron Carrier said the chances of him joining Dana Holgorsen's offensive staff at Houston are "pretty good. This is home." Carrier was a star receiver for the Cougars from 2008-11 and was recently named FootballScoop's receivers coach of the year. Carrier was with Holgorsen when the new head coach was introduced at Houston's basketball game on Wednesday.
