Big 12 referee Mike Defee told a pool reporter that both he and the head linesman were hit during the pre-game incident between Oklahoma and Texas: "This is the 115th playing of this great game and to have that kind of thing happen is disappointing. We can't control that as officials. ... What happened out there is an embarrassment to everyone. It shouldn't happen." Defee said both coaches had been warned entering the game. He had never called a pre-game penalty before today.

Six different Oklahoma players have sacks today, and 12 players have contributed to the team's 12 tackles for loss. While linebacker Kenneth Murray is playing at an All-America level and nose guard Neville Gallimore has significantly upgraded his play, the overall unit looks completely different under first-year coordinator Alex Grinch. Texas is averaging jut 3.7 yards per play.

The Texas run game is alive and this game amazingly is tied 10-10 after Oklahoma's defense finally cracked. Backup Roschon Johnson raced 57 yards and then scored on a 4-yard plunge. Before those two plays, Texas had only 7 net rushing yards. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger deserves a lot of credit in keeping the drive going with his pass to Johnson on third-and-8.
